Human Rights in South Africa COMM-268

The South Africa course spends three weeks in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban, every other year exploring the changes since the country’s first multiracial elections in 1994 and the extent to which the society reflects the values of its post-apartheid constitution in the daily life of its citizens, with attention not only to political rights but also to economic and social rights. In the three years we have been running the course, our students have produced two books and one magazine. This year’s class is maintaining a blog of its experience, which can be found at: Blogging on human rights in South Africa

Produced by Christina Lenis

As part of an independent study with Professor Judith Richland, student Christina Lenis took video equipment on her trip to South Africa with Professor Dan Connell. Upon her return, Christina worked on this video for a semester as an independent study. Technically, she not only mastered the professional editing program Final Cut Pro, but learned about the nuances of editing and storytelling in the creation of this documentary.
